What To Expect

Scheduling an Appointment

We accept appointments for initial consultations Monday through Friday during regular business hours, Saturday mornings, and we will accomodate emergencies as necessary. Please bring a copy of your pet’s medical records and  x-rays, or you may ask your family veterinarian to send the information to our office.

Initial Consultation

  • Generally, appointments last one hour, however, our surgeons will spend the time necessary to discuss your pet’s specific medical case and answer your questions. During your pet’s consultation, the surgeon will review medical records and x-rays, perform a complete examination and discuss the treatment options available for your pet. On occasion, additional tests may be required to provide the most accurate diagnosis.

  • If surgery is recommended, the doctor will discuss the procedure and present estimated costs. Please contact us as soon as you decide to move forward with your pet’s surgery.

Surgical Appointment

Detailed, pre-surgical instructions will be provided prior to your pet’s surgery. The following is general information to help you prepare.

  • Feeding: Please do not feed your pet after 10:00 p.m. the night prior to surgery.
  • Admissions: Please check-in your pet between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on the morning of surgery.
  • Payment: Fifty percent of your high estimate is due at check-in.
  • Surgery Time: The surgery schedule is determined each morning depending on emergencies and case complexity. Please feel free to call us for an update on your pet’s surgery time.
  • After Surgery: You will be contacted as soon as your pet has recovered from anesthesia and arrangements for release will be discussed.
  • Visitation: Depending on the complexity of the surgery, arrangements for visitation will be made on a case-by-case basis.
  • Release: We make every effort to release your pet on the same day as surgery. On occasion we will recommend hospitalization. During checkout a nurse will review written instructions and answer any questions.

Overnight Care

Due to the nature of the surgery or the progress of the case, overnight hospitalization may be required. Overnight care provides your pet with in-hospital, 24-hour monitoring by a veterinary nurse who will ensure your pet’s comfort.

Release

After surgery you will be contacted regarding a release time. When picking up your pet we will go over necessary post-surgical care, provide printed instructions for at home care, schedule a follow up appointment, and answer any questions.
